I’ve been trying to think of a theme for 2017. This is the best I could come up with, OK?
I was watching one of Tori’s youtube videos for her 30-day sketchbook challenge and she said something that really hit home for me: get to know your sketchbook. I’m always excited to get a new sketchbook but rarely crack them open because I don’t want to mess up the pristine perfect paper. How dumb is that? It’s a sketchbook! Well, do buy expensive sketchbooks and paper (see previous post).
Anyway, I’m forcing myself to be braver with imperfection. It’s OK if I make a mistake – it’s just paper! So I broke out my markers and did something that I haven’t done since community college: drew an original fantasy character. I got the idea after an exhausting hour-long spin class as I started to fall asleep while watching Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban. What would a anthropomorphic hippogriff look like? My brain was mush and this is what I think about, OK?
Here’s the final piece! Not perfect, but I had fun. I bought a whole bunch more brush markers so I’ll have a lot tools to practice with! Happy New Year, everyone!
